Young Professionals Involvement (YPI) Competition

About YPI Competition

The YPI Competition is organized by IEEE Russia (Siberia) Young Professionals Affinity Group in order to facilitate involvement of the young professionals' community in discussion of innovations and practical issues in science and technology. During the full paper submission the participants of the Competition give consent to review their full papers by members of the YPI committee on the novelty of the research and its relevance to the state-of-the-art topics, practical advancement, the research and technological development (RTD) potential, human capital, commercial potential of the technology, etc.

The authors of the 10 best papers will be requested to present their papers during the conference technical session to be assessed by the YPI committee in person. The Committee will choose 3 Winners of the Competition. The Winners will be awarded IEEE YPI certificates, as well as personalized 30% discount certificates, and special presents.

About IEEE Young Professionals

IEEE Young Professionals is the group of IEEE members and volunteers who have graduated from their first professional degree within the past 15 years. It is an international community, whose members are interested in elevating their professional image, expanding their global network, connecting with peers locally and giving back to their community.

Young Professionals Involvement (YPI) Competition Regulations

Competition Objective

The Competition is held to involve the young professionals community in discussing relevant scientific and practical problems within the framework of thematic conferences.

Participation Conditions

  • Anyone who simultaneously meets all the requirements can take part in the Competition.
  • The participant must be a young professional who received their first higher education diploma no more than 15 years prior to the application submission.
  • The participant must be the author or co-author of a paper submitted to the target conference.
  • When submitting a paper, it is necessary to select the "Participate in YPI" option. By doing so, the Participant agrees to the rules of the Competition.

Competition Rules

  • The work must be a paper that fully meets the formatting and content requirements of the target conference.
  • The papers undergo standard peer review. If a paper is rejected, it is excluded from the Competition.
  • Accepted papers undergo a blind evaluation procedure by experts from the IEEE Young Professional Affinity Group, receiving an entry score.
  • Ten papers with the highest entry scores that exceed the minimum passing threshold are recognized as Finalists.
  • The final assessment is based on the Finalist's presentation at the section meeting.
  • If the paper is not presented, it is automatically excluded from consideration.
  • The three Finalists with the highest final scores are declared the winners (maximum of 3 winners per conference).

Evaluation Regulations

  • The work is evaluated according to the following criteria: relevance and novelty, significance in the real sector of the economy, RTD potential, continuity and potential for further development, presence of stakeholders.
  • Each criterion is evaluated on a ten-point scale by at least two experts.
  • The blind evaluation and the final evaluation are independent processes.
  • The maximum possible score is 50. The passing score is determined by the committee but cannot be lower than 20.

Competition Results

  • The winners are announced at the closing ceremony of the target conference or via an official informational letter.
  • Winners are awarded IEEE YPI certificates and personalized certificates granting a 30% discount on the registration fee for upcoming target conferences.
  • The certificate is valid for 18 months from the date of receipt. The discount is granted only to the person indicated in the Certificate and applies to a single registration fee.
